Well this picture might be a bit too large, but my internet is too slow for me to even WANT to fix it...so here I go.
Hi all! I'm Alicia Ramos (pronounced Ahli-si-uh). I do not have a nickname unfortunately, so you'll just have to get my name right. Although if you girls come up with one that actually sticks I applaud you and then you won't have to worry about mispronouncing my name. ;)
I just graduated from the Master's College, a small private school in the Los Angeles area, where I studied Biblical Studies and Women's Ministry. I absolutely loved it there, so if you have yet to head to college I will probably shamelessly promote Master's and for that I apologize in advance... I am a preschool teacher here at home through a Family Center ministry called the Kodiak Baptist Mission. This is something else I will probably shamelessly promote if the opportunity comes. Currently, I also hold a second job as a barista at a quaint (but high stressed) little french-owned coffee and pastry shop and babysit for extra bucks. If it wasn't obvious already, I really love kids so I also help out with our children's church at my home church here in Kodiak and also helped this last year at my home church in Souther California.
Here 20 things you didn't know about me because we are just meeting now and pretty much sums up me and all the questions in the "About Me" explanation thingy:
- I live on an island in Alaska called Kodiak Island
- My family is from Guatemala but I can't speak a lick of spanish, even though they all can
- I LOVE anything vintage, so I am always searching for vintage knick-knacks, cameras, clothes, or books. My goal is to start a vintage camera collection, which I have started with a Vintage 1920s Brownie and a vintage book collection, which I have started with a 1946 edition of Little Women and a 1906 edition of Love Letter of a Musician. Next is a Renaissance copy of Paradise Lost.
- I love watching old films. My favorite film has to be Sabrina with my favorite actress being Audrey Hepburn. My favorite actor is Charlie Chaplin with Clark Cable coming in a close second.
- Scrapbooking used to be a favorite pastime of mine, but now it's too expensive. Now I just work with scrapbook paper that I have collected to decorate frames and shoeboxes, make cards, and make clothespins look pretty to hang up all my photos.
- I love to travel and have been to ten different countries; 9 of them being within the last four years.
- I lived in Israel for three and a half months as part of my Bible degree.
- I really love nature and being outdoors and I really love the ocean. So, I really like grass, the sun, mountains, beaches, and trees. Parks, hiking, kayaking, backpacking, and camping = FAVE!
- One of my biggest passions is photography and me and my camera that has yet to be named are pretty much inseparable. I also LOVE to have photoshoots.
- I have never been able to consistently blog until tumblr came along; now I can't stop.
- Looking at me, you'd never be able to tell I was a top hurdler in high school (I'm real short at about 5'2").
- I love to sing, play bass, and worship, so when I can I like to help out with my church's worship team. My musical styles are very versatile though, as I started out wanting to be a pop star, then a punk rocker, but did worship instead, and then joined a metal band, while being trained classically, and then doing opera.
- I love orange soda.
- I have an 18 year-old sister who has a one year old son named Loghan, a 5 year brother named Sam, and a 2 year old sister named Arely. My parents are divorced, so I also have three step-siblings through my dad and my stepmom.
- I am a gleek and a Harry Potter nerd. And I hate Twilight. Enough said.
- When I first started college I was a Biblical Counseling Major with a minor in Music then changed to General Bible. If I go back in time and restart college, I would add a Communications Digital Media Major on top of being a Bible Major, joined our media team earlier, paid attention in my OT 2 Survey Class, and not taken so many music classes and left so many gen eds to the end.
- I watch Elf every Thanksgiving and Christmas. I also have probably seen Spanglish, Nacho Libre, and 50 First Dates over 20 times each and still love them.
- If I could afford to change my style, I would probably be more hippie-bohemian. Or in other words, a hipster.
- It wasn't until the last 2 months of college that I finally got a boyfriend. His name is Caleb Sharp and we met doing choir together and then became friends doing opera together. We spent a lot of our time in the library and around campus going for walks, and when I wasn't trapped in the library, we watched old films together, ate lots of junk food and sushi, and drank lots of coffee. Now our dating life has been limited to the phone and getting angry at skype because my internet is too slow to use it.
- I have never done a missions trip before, but I am so excited for India and for the Lord's work through us and through this ministry! I have always wanted to go to India, just because the culture is so rich and colorful, but I also know how lost so many people are. I have grown a heart for the women and children there and just want to love on them with the love of Jesus. The only thing I expect is that the Lord will do a miraculous work through us and as much as we will be serving at Rahab's Rope, I know we will get a lot from the women that the Lord is working through.
21. I am so excited for this trip and to meet you girls! I hope all your preparing is going well and the Lord is blessing you!
